Longmont police looking for sex assault suspect
Contributed by: Travis Henry/YourHub.com   on 7/12/2006

In 2000, I wrote about a retired New York firefighter who spent two years as a Longmont police volunteer trying to track down an on-the-lam sex offender named Jacinto Barron.

Police believe that in 1995, Barron sexually assaulted a 16-year-old girl in Longmont after plying her and other juveniles with alcohol. Free on bond, Barron skipped town before standing trial on charges of sex assault on a child and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Retired New York firefighter Gary Cusmano spent countless hours trying to track down 47-year-old Barron, who specializes in making fake IDs. Cusmano thought he had his man in 2000, when he tracked Barron down in New Mexico.

But apparently Barron is on the run again.

The Longmont police issued a request to the public today, hoping for help in finding Barron. According to Sgt. Jeff Satur, this case involves a " very bad individual that needs to be picked up."

Barron is 5-feet-4-inches tall, 160 lbs., with black hair and brown eyes.

Police said he has used the following aliases:

Candy Barron, Issac Barron, Jacinto Barrow, Isaac Barron, Candy Jacinto, Candy Gomez

He currently has a warrant for his arrest out of Boulder County for the crime of Sexual Assault on a Child by someone in a position of trust, according to the press release. The bond is $100,000. He also has a no-bond warrant for a parole violation on a sexual assault on a child and failure to register as a sex offender.

Police believe Jacinto Barron is somewhere in Texas, possibly near the Mexican border.

The photo of him with a beard is from 2002. The photo of him clean shaven is from 2000.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is encouraged to contact Boulder County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-444-3776 or 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or the Longmont Police Department

I'm Gary Cusmano, the retired Lieut,FDNY that was volunteering at the LPD from 1998-2001.I worked for a long time to locate Mr.Barron, and was successful in having him taken into custody in New Mexico with the help of a local plainclothes Sheriff's Deputy.I kept with the case for so long because I believed as I still do,that he is a very dangerous individual who needs to be in custody for society's sake.I recently saw on the Longmont Police "Most Wanted" page that Mr.Barron was again a fugitive.I contacted "CrimeStoppers",and met with a Longmont Detective whom I've known for years.I had some very definite ideas on how to apprehend Mr.Barron, and I shared them with the Detective.(I learned a lot about Barron during the time I spent looking for him)and hopefully,in due time, with or without my assistance,he will be apprehended again. My hope is the the overly lenient judicial system will grow a spine and sentence this individual to a truly meaningful sentnence this time around.
