Blog Entry 45 of 66 Wrongmont
These are the Longmont stories you may have missed in the local paper, if they ran them at all. I will expand on what was either glossed over or totally ignored - but still may be of interest to you. I encourage citizens to be aware of their local, state, and federal government and to speak up and hold their representatives accountable for their actions - good, bad, or otherwise.

In tonight's Longmont City Council meeting, there was talk of an Open Forum with city council members. There were questions about where information about it would be posted. One speaker asked the city pay " The Agenda" (if you've never heard of it, you're probably not alone, suffice it to say the name fits) to post it in their weekly paper. I saw it in the Times-Call, and maybe he doesn't know anyone who gets that paper, but I see lots of Times-Calls on driveways in my neighborhood. I don't know their circulation, don't really care, and am far from the first person to jump to their defense.

But anyway, I'll post it here for free, er, at my expense. I've written plenty of times on this subject (access to local government), so this is a good thing. Utilize it.

Public Invited to Open Forum with Longmont City Council

JANUARY 8, 2008 - The Longmont City Council invites the community to participate in an open forum with Council Members on Tuesday, January 15, 2008 at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chambers located at 350 Kimbark St.

This is an opportunity for Longmont residents to engage in a positive, informal dialogue with members of the City Council about any current issues or future opportunities they see for Longmont.

The "open forum" format differs from the typical City Council Meeting in that residents can not only offer their opinions, but can also ask questions and converse with Council Members. City Staff also will be on hand.

This open forum, which replaces the regular City Council Meeting, has no formal agenda other than to listen to voices from the community.

For more information contact City Council Members at: www.ci.longmont.co.us/city_council/members/index.htm or the City Manager's Office at 303-651-8601.
