Blog Entry 4 of 24 Another Home Office Inmate
Just another web consultant whose boss is a complete slave driver. But I take my revenge by reading - a lot - when he's not looking. I believe in the role of government to help improve society, but I'm fully aware of the dangers of entrenched bureacracy and the how money corrupts. I'm not so much a liberal as I am appalled by what passes for modern conservatism. And as the pendulum swings back and the left finds its voice and strength again, I'm ready to damn its excesses. "To you, I'm an atheist. To God, I'm the loyal opposition."

McCain Tsunami in Pennsylvania
Contributed by: Ralph Dosser   on 4/23/2008

With all the attention on the Obama/Clinton race, a little piece of news from the Pennsylvania fell through the cracks last night.

First off, the Democratic candidates received a combined total of 2,267,368 votes - a great many of them first-time voters - while only 791,205 votes were cast in the Republican primary. That's almost 3-to-1 Democrats over Republicans.

But inside the Republican results is another suprise: Mike Huckabee and Ron Paul took a combined 27.30% of the vote, meaning of the relatively few Republicans who did turn out, one in four came out to vote against McCain.

(The numbers are from the Pennsylvania Department of State's election returns website).

It's no secret that McCain is having trouble. His fundraising numbers have been astonishingly low - he ended March with $11.6 million in the bank after raising more than $15 million for the month. Compare that to Obama's $51 million on hand after raising $41 million in March.

It's also well known that McCain is having trouble energizing his party. He's a bad-tempered old man with a lot of political baggage and a "stay the course" message at a time when the country is desperate for change (Bush's disapproval rating hit 69% this week - the highest ever polled for any president).

But for one-quarter of the GOP's primary voters coming out to vote against the presumptive nominee - that party may be in very deep trouble indeed.

The perfect storm is building for the GOP. Change is coming and you can gauge the magnitude by the shrillness of the screeching from the LF.
