Blog Entry 4 of 5 Dooty and Honor
My take on the political scene, spiced with bits of life-as-it-happens. I'll try and separate the fertilizer from the facts, at least as I see it. Coming from the perspective of a not-so-average guy with little or no respect for sacred cows, moose or squirrels. A master debater and wielder of a needle-sharp wit guaranteed to pop the toughest gasbag. Count on seeing people you know and love lampooned and harpooned with impunity and puns galore. No one will be spared, that's a promise. (Note: this blog not recommended for the humor-impaired and you know who you is.)

Praying for a miracle
Contributed by: Doug Wray   on 5/4/2008

Hey there boys and girls!

Another lovely weekend day. I'm taking a short break from helping my wife with her roses (picks thorn out of glove, then takes off glove and removes thorn that pierced all the way through)... had to come in for a transfusion... (grin).

Was just thinking on the nature of faith and prayer.

I believe that God gives us three crucial attributes: free will, intelligence and hope (or faith if you will). Our free will lets us choose our path in the world, our intelligence helps us stay on that path and hope/faith helps us survive the rough spots. I'm big for hope - it's all I've had a couple times in the past decade. God's been very kind to my wife and I the past few years and we've managed to get through a very VERY rough patch - and for that I'm endlessly grateful.

What I've learned from this hard period is that it's important to hope for outcomes that are *possible*. It's fine to ask for a little help but don't expect God to go to the grocery and bring them home... usually He gives you JUST enough help... which I am completely on board with - the Big Man's got a LOT of folks on His to-do list!!

All that being said, I think there's some folks that simply don't GET IT and keep asking "Oh Lord,... won't you buy me... a Mercedes Benz...." and then crying when it doesn't show up.

So, to those people, let's keep it real folks, God's got a LOT to do - don't make Him waste time with ridiculous dreams that make no sense. Try having a dream that others share and with luck, hope and a little faith - it could happen.

Otherwise you're going to be left with sore knees and a big sense of disappointment.
