Good-bye radio, hello i-Pod!
Contributed by: delete this   on 4/2/2007

Have you noticed lately that when you listen to just about any radio station any more, many tout themselves as having far fewer commercials than their competitors? This was not always the case. For many many years, decades really, we were at the mercy of the Radio Station. They COULD have played fewer commercials, but they all wanted to be the fattest cats they could be, so they forced Long commercial breaks down our throats. errrrr, ears. Often times they would play upwards of one, maybe even TWO songs in a row, before resuming their steady stream of commercials. They COULD have gotten by with less, but they wanted more more more money. Resulting in less less less music. Oooohhhh my How Times Have Changed! Can you say "MP3 Player" mister radio man? I knew you could. More likely, you say it, cry it, in your sleep at night. . Today, I can load up my music player on my desktop computer and que up an entire days worth of songs and let it play. In surround sound. All day, Very few commercial breaks. In fact, zero, by my count. I have over 5,000 songs ripped on to my computer, courtesy of cd's. And I can download music off the internet (a series of tubes). Then I can plug in my USB ported mini-player, ala I-Pod, load up a barrel of songs, and play commercial free music while I drive. It's a small miracle. It's a beautiful thing. In honor of all these radio stations who have quickly changed their tune in sheer desperation, I recommend these as radio station slogans, and hope that readers can add more to the list!

We cut back on the commercials, because YOU cut back on listening to the radio.

Fewer commercial breaks, trying to keep the fewer listeners we have left.

We spend MORE time playing music, so we can pray you don't turn on that darn I-pod.

NOBODY plays more music than we do.... well, except your darn I-pod.

Radio wasn't all about the songs back in the old days. It was the scene for teens and young adults. The DJ's were icons and the contests sometimes outrageous. If you didn't know what got said on the morning show, you were so not cool.

Suffering through endless commercials and tapes with only 3 good songs, I couldn't help but always think that "I wanna new drug". One that wont play 40 minutes of commercials per hour.

BTW, like Huey Lewis. Just don't know from what B-sides some of his supposed "Best of" songs came from on that CD.

I am not a fan of the ipod. Maybe I'm just old-fashioned. I'm just not quite ready to give up my record player, tape decks and CDs. Sitting through some of the songs I don't necessarily like is a character builder. Take that, Huey Lewis!
