Historical European Longbow Making
Contributed by: Dennis DuBe on 4/29/2008

What:
Agincour, Crecy, and other great historic battles were decided with the effective use of the European Longbow. It was even in use previous to this time. But do you know the tradition and history of this and similar forms of hunting and military bows? You will learn all the skills necessary to construct historical longbows while making your own basic longbow. We will follow different patterns from medieval times, based on historical examples found in Europe, such as the Viking age and medieval English longbows. Working with modern versions of historical tools, we use special, selected woods and native horn in crafting the longbow. The subtle yet powerful mechanics of good bow design will be stressed. All tools and materials will be provided. Please bring $140 to class for materials.

This class is awesome! And it’s well worth the expense. Dan is very knowledgeable, friendly and is a good instructor and mentor. His ability to instruct his students in the history of the bow while being able to guide them through the construction while being able to allow them to do their own work, now matter how skilled or unskilled their wood working skills might be, combine to make this one of the best student participation classes I have ever attended. I highly recommend this weekend course, you won’t regret the “time off” you spend “working”!
