Tax filing turns into fundraising

First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Longmont raised $600 in a very unique way.

"We were happy to be a recipient of a generous gift through H and R Block's Non-Profit Referral program. We are grateful to Fred Dorth, who contacted us and helped set up the program with our congregation", said Senior Pastor, Steve Berke.

The program awards non-profits with $25 for each new client they refer to H&R Block for tax preparation.

"This year, over 950 charitable organizations nationwide received a donation through our Non-Profit Referral program," said Dave Keagle, district manager of Longmont H&R Block.

Non-profit organizations often see charitable donations increase toward the end of the year as taxpayers maximize their yearly tax deduction for donations. This program provides non-profits with an opportunity to raise funds at the beginning of the year when private donations traditionally decline.

Most 501(c)(3) organizations such as schools, little leagues and food pantries, are eligible for the program. Organizations can call 303-776-6307 for more information.
