CONSIGNMENT:A SAVVY PROCESS THAT SAVES GREEN, PROVIDES A GREEN WAY TOKEEP A COMMUNITY FRESH AND VIBRANT, AND ADDS GREEN TO A WARDROBE
"Accessorize
the Inn" is an inaugural event bringing
for profit business together with non-profit agencies
to improve the vitality of both
A woman's wardrobe isn't complete without accessories. Accessories add the final touch that ties an outfit together. The Orange Door (Formerly Green BackResale Boutique) in Longmont has found a way to use accessories to tie a for-profit junior and women's clothing shop together with non-profit agencies. Brian Brown, Orange Door owner, first approached The Inn Between, a Boulder County transitional housing agency near to his heart, with a way to combine his own store mission with support for theirs.
The color green has a history of buzzword connotations that reference newness, money, and most recently, environmental conservation. So, the name "GreenBack" was intended to reflect all of these since clothing consignment is a savvy process that recycles, saves money, and provides a way to keep the community fresh and vibrant.
"It's no secret that consignment is good for the environment by reducing demand on raw materials and energy waste associated with production and transportation of new goods. It diverts tons of "perfectly good" goods from entering the landfills each year. Also, consignment with a locally owned store is good for the economy, with virtually all of the dollars spent going into the pockets of local families: our consignors, our employees, and our own." says Brian, "Everybody wins by giving "green" back to the environment and green back to the local economy."
Taking this concept a step further, GreenBack has designed a "green" way to help even more people win. Local non-profit agencies rely upon the good will of local businesses and members of the community for the resources they need to provide programs and services. The economic vitality of businesses directly affects the vitality of the programs and services non-profits offer. So, Brian has incorporated collaboration with non-profits into his business plan by creating an in-store venue that celebrates the mission of a non-profit agency.
"Accessorize for the Inn" is an inaugural event designed to provide a way customers can market, at auction, a beautiful wardrobe accessory they're willingto part with, while shopping for "new" accessories to revitalize both their wardrobe ~
and the lives of InnBetween residents. The store has recently changed it's name to green's complimentary color; The Orange Door, to reflect its trendy merchandising of upscale juniors and ladies clothing. Step through The Orange Door to compliment your green lifestyle!
In addition to a one time event,non-profits can also set up a GreenBack consignment account as an ongoing way to build revenue. Supporters can take their gently used wardrobe items to GreenBack for sale designating their profits be applied to that agencies consignment account.
"Support for The Inn Between mission,"to provide transitional housing and services to diverse homeless individuals and families to help them achieve self-sufficiency", builds a bridge the homeless canuse to cross over from dependency to contributing members of the community.",says Donna Lovato, Executive Director of the Inn, "When formerly homeless people assimilate into the community as self-sufficient individuals a community becomes stronger and more vibrant."
