Longmont was the eastern base point in the high tech economic triangle stretching from Boulder to Ft. Collins. The area within the triangle is fast becoming the new Silicon Valley of the 21st Century with Longmont the only City or town to option out of the future because its leaders are intimidated by an angry 10% or less of the population. The new Silicon Valley stands in the center of the Mountain State's two major East West Interstates, I-70 & I-80 & I-25 connected by I -25 . The major transportation hub North/South and East and West of the United States this side of the Continental Divide. The High Technology Triangle is anchored in UNC, Ft. Collins and UC, Boulder, connecting this transportation hub to World Commerce through DIA. Whether people pursue the occupation they prefer depends upon many conditions; but their pursuit of knowledge and occupation is not dependent so much on the nature of the region in which they dwell as it is upon the number, energy, and ability of their neighbors, an abundant human resource of Saint Vrain Valley.
Thus, Longmont City Council has caused the annexation(s) on its front door shifted the base of the triangle from Longmont over to Firestone, whose motto is "A Community in Motion" says it all.
This story is the tale of two Northern Colorado Cities, both blessed by their own proximities to I-25. Longmont, on the West attempting to block their own children & grand children's equal opportunities to share in the American dream; Firestone on the East compassionate, imaginative and creative in helping the younger generations with their life's struggles instead of adding to the people's burdens in life like finding affordable living quarters in the Saint Vrain Valley region of the triangle at a time in life when they need a start. Longmont no longer offers them a stake in the community; Firestone offers the people who participate in their community full citizenship. Longmont offers nothing to its next generation of leaders because its anti-growth dinosaurs want to replace themselves in the oligarchy that wants to control what people buy and from whom. Thus, it is a difference in attitudes like East Berlin and West Berlin during the Cold War that that draws people to make economic successes of their regions or repels them. One word differentiates between Longmont and Firestone today - freedom. What does freedom mean? The freedom from having your quality of life controlled by an angry minority whose leaders profess to know-Everything about government and who counsel members of Council to trust no one regarding advice on public policy but themselves.
There is a parallel in history and I recommend you visit the web site: "Ohio Central History" for the precedent of what is happening in Longmont and why the Lobbyists in the anti-growth faction in Longmont are ruining the City of Longmont financially and the new anti-growth policy of the City is doomed to failure.

The
Know-Nothings originated in 1849 strongly opposing immigrants and the Catholic Church. They responded to direct questions about their beliefs with hostility much like today's anti-growth movement in Longmont. The
Know-Nothings adopted
the American Party as its official name in 1854. The
Know-Nothings intended to prevent Catholics and immigrants from being elected to political offices just like the
Longmont Know-Everything anti-growth Lobby's recent attempt to control Longmont's selection process in Longmont for much the same reasons. The only difference is Longmont
Know-Everything's don't limit their hostility to the Catholic Church but they include all Christians which still doesn't make their intolerances right. Instead of Europe the migrants today come from Boulder and Longmont, thanks to failed
Know-Everything policies, who represent our next generation migrating to Frederick, Mead, and Firestone. Longmont even built a HWY 119 bypass to accommodate the flow of traffic from Weld County to Boulder every working day so Boulder can collect the fruits of their labors and send them home at night without providing necessary municipal services for their satellite colonies in Eastern Boulder County and Southwest Weld to provide services Boulder cleverly avoids.
The Know-nothing Party withered away because it was without principles, everything it stood for was negative, failure to stand tall against slavery while the national trend was against the institution. Today's failure of the
Know Everything Lobbyists in Boulder County is their failure of vision and courage to stand for the economic principle of equal opportunity for incoming young citizens founding their first household and the open hostility against those who stand upon American principles of Government who also have religious faith. Those of like belief today on City Council have actively taken on the American Spirit of free enterprise; rather than man-up against intolerance and working for the betterment of the people, they profess to serve instead of increasing their daily burdens. Whining because they are losing development to the east side of Colorado's silicon valley will not do anything but raise taxes in the long run for Longmonters, the must figure how to keep people not run them off.
A young person, the future is yours, not theirs. Unless you are one of the elite with lots of money, unfortunately you don't fit the angry minority's vision for Longmont's future. Why, because they have already committed so many economic blunders in less than four months in office the taxes necessary to make up for the losses will enslave Longmont taxpayers for years to come. So young people of Longmont, vote with your feet, so to speak, as the East Berliner's and migrate east this time for your own economic freedom.
