Having it both ways on Longmont City Council
Contributed by: Richard Yale on 12/13/2007

December 13, 2007

I agree with Mr. Rodriquez in Wrongmont's Having it both ways , "If you're like me, you're probably getting tired of people blowing hot air out of both sides of their mouth". Please add my disgust toward politicians running for office with false accusations toward City Staff. Just as their counter-part members in the U.S. Congress blaming America first, like hypothetico-deductive lemmies blaming Longmont first, in the next breath pass laws requiring Big City Government fix everything to the myopic vision of 7 people. If the reader care for his or her personal liberty and freedom and isn't eligible to vote because they are not registered, or are registered and didn't vote, here is why:the local economy against private enterprise and to deny the coming generation of Longmonter's homes in LifeBridge turns back the clock on our civilization to King George days. Then, the King used Writ of Attainders to punish the people for political behavior the King and his cronies didn't like. Like King George, Mr. Juday and his cronies don't like anyone else planning their own visions of the future that are different from Karen Benker's. LifeBridge is annexed; a petition to change that is an exercise of free speech. However, free speech does not give them the right to freely rob property or hijack their neighbors houses, exactly what Ms. Benker & Mr. Juday advocate. Since all economics are politics, and Mr. Juday's stealth monarch on Longmont City Council have control of City Government, they are using all the powers of Government to insure only fairness, reasonable and equal protection in City Process are extended to themselves and people who think just like them.

The fainted cries by Council Member Benker are an act to deceive new Members and the public into thinking the City is plotting against the public, when in deed and fact the City Staff is protecting individual rights of all individual citizens as the Fourteenth Amendment demands of it. Benker and Juday, if elected, would abridge the Staff's duty to provide equal protection of the law to all citizens. That means vote for the so called progressives and lose your rights of citizenship. In the final analysis a voting block controlled by Benker/Juday will cause only criminals to have Fourteenth Amendment protection in City Process. 94% of law-abiding citizens Benker and Juday do not represent are left out of the power block's protection.

As the November Election facts prove: only 6% of the population claims the proxy Council claim: "WINNER TAKES ALL", to dictate life style, social organization and housing needs and to dictate the economy for 94% of Longmont's population and all future generations. Let's go back to the future and restore an American Government, for American citizens in Longmont. Vote Yes for Gabe Santos an all American Candidate whose children and grandchildren will inherit the same future as your children and grandchildren. May that be an inheritance of liberty and freedom, not Benker/Juday socialism?

I read this story and checked the County election site and to this Independent it looks like from the comments of Van Gorden and Leise they don't give a hoot ahout our children and grandchildren. Looks like they are too busy stopping housing for them in the future. These must be some of the people so rude to the City employees. Shame on them.

Apparently "We the People" means people the author agrees with, no one else. The rest of us are socialists. Real original. Stop watching FoxNews, they lie to their viewers. This country was founded by people wary of the church, corporate power, and the unitary executive, or king. Reagan changed all that and our country is going right down the toilet, people like you are doing the flushing. don't worry, when progressives take back the country we'll respect your opinion and we won't call you names. We'll just pat you on the head and remind you how askew conservatism is with America.

Thanks for the lesson on how to make statistics lie. Population includes children who cannot vote and legal aliens. Two of the candidates ran in wards that roughly included 1/3 of the voter base. Statistics damn lying statistics - thanks for the lesson. It would be interesting if you really did work up the real numbers other than the propaganda numbers that falsely serve your argument. The percentage would still be low, I agree voters should show up. We need all of the people involved. Citizens should be educated with the facts not just the damn lying statistics.

You write above: "That means vote for the so called progressives and lose your rights of citizenship." --- Yipes -- with unfounded statements like this I don't need to respond. I was an independent up until 2001. I still have a very independent bent but your convincing me that there are those in our political discourse that need to be monitored for falsehoods but not taken seriously. You're one of them. Com'on give me something to respond to - I love good honest debate. What you offer is something else.

so private enterprise=liberty and freedom. citizens organizing and bucking a city council that ignored their opposition is socialism. right, you might want to look those two words up. nice rhetoric but it doesn't make any sense. And incidentally the term "blame America first" is merely a jingoistic phrase used to dismiss honest criticism of our governments policies. This post smacks more of being a poor loser, devoid of any factual content but full of name calling and accusations you don't back up with any substantive comments.

Good job, Rich. Turnout, or lack thereof, was next on my hit parade. Kind of hard to consider anything a mandate when about half of the population are registered, and only half of THOSE actually voted. And what, only one cracked 50%, the rest pluralities? SOME people have spoken, FEW actually.
