4-H Carnival "Fun in the Sun" Benefits Youth of Community!

Mark you calendars now - the annual 4-H Carnival is back! This is a fun filled - family event for all ages. I hope to see you there!

Boulder County 4-H's 47th annual fund-raising carnival "Fun in the Sun" is Saturday, March 8, 2008. The event begins at 11 a.m. and continues until 6:00 p.m. at the Boulder County Fairgrounds in Longmont at Hover and Nelson Roads.

The 4-H Carnival is one of the best deals around for good, clean family fun that benefits the youth of our community. There are games and prizes for kids of all ages and abilities, and game tickets are priced for budget-conscious families. Admission is free and the public is welcome. Over 40 game and food booths will be operating including: a cake walk, ring tosses, basketball, pinball, archery, jumping castle, golfing, and two dozen other games of chance. Food will be plentiful that day, too, with pizza, sausages, hot dogs, chili, hamburgers, pasta, nachos, pies, cookies, popcorn, and soft drinks available.

The silent auction will be back. Items to be auctioned include tickets to popular Denver-area attractions, ski equipment, dozens of gift certificates to Boulder County and metro restaurants, stuffed animals, T-shirts, plus hundreds of other items. The silent auction closes out at 5 p.m.

In keeping with the 4-H mission to build leadership skills, the kids are the ones who put on the 4-H Carnival. Club members ranging in age from 5 to 18 years old plan, design, build, and run the game and concession booths, and use their two-thirds portion of the proceeds to help fund their local club activities, proceeds are also used to support 4-H programs at the county level, including scholarships, sponsoring judging teams, speech and talent contests, camps, leadership and citizenship conferences. It also funds Operation Easter Bunny, and Military Mail.

With more than seven million young people, 4-H has grown to become the largest youth development organization in our nation. Members, aged 5-18, learn leadership, citizenship, and life skills by completing projects of their choice in over 70 subject areas, including, archery, vet science, computers, international intrigue, photography, foods and nutrition, rocketry, needlecraft, and livestock projects.

Members also show their projects at the Boulder County and Colorado State Fairs, perform community service, organize and lead club activities, and help fellow 4-H members. Colorado State University Cooperative Extension sponsors the Boulder County 4-H Youth Development Program. Currently there are 44 4-H clubs and nearly 800 members in Boulder County, as well as another 4,400 members involved in school-enrichment, after-school and summer outreach programs. Approximately 300 adults serve as adult volunteer 4-H leaders in Boulder County.
