Let me start by giving a little background on our organization. The mission of the Inn Between of Longmont, Inc. is "To provide transitional housing and services for diverse homeless individuals and families to help them achieve self-sufficiency." The services we provide encourage our residents to become self-sustaining, productive and responsible citizens within the St. Vrain Valley community (Boulder and Weld Counties).
Recently one of the great accomplishments the Inn experienced was the building of a playground in what used to be the parking lot of our facility located at 1913 Terry Street. The playground is not only for our tenants at 1901 & 1913 Terry, but for neighboring children to enjoy. KABOOM! and the Home Depot conducted a gallop poll that reported, "Less than half of American Children have a playground within walking distance of their homes. However, 87% of those playgrounds are dangerously unsafe." These statistics were unacceptable for the Inns Executive Director, Donna Lovato, she has always wanted a safe place for the Inns kids to play. Because of her drive and determination, our kids are no longer a part of that statistic. Donna says this is just one of the many exciting things she has been involved with while directing the Inn Between.
The Inn continues to fight for the homeless and at-risk individuals. I could go on and on with different stories and things I have personally witnessed that happen here. Everyone that comes into our offices is treated with compassion and most importantly respect. I am proud to work for such an amazing organization.
I encourage everyone to drive by and see the smiling faces of the children as they play on their new playground. If you are not convinced by this story, you will be by seeing the Inn Kids!
