Dancing Sugar Plums at Boulder Ballet
Contributed by: Jamie Johnson on 11/5/2007

Dairy Center for the Arts has been atwitter with activity every weekend since the beginning the September. Boulder Ballet has been working hard on their production of the Nutcracker, which opens Thanksgiving weekend. Strains of recorded music fill the rehearsal hall but it will be set to live orchestration once the shows open at the beautiful Macky Auditorium.

Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra and Boulder Ballet have collaborated since 1989 and this year's production is sure to be the best yet. Students of Boulder Ballet School join the company members of Boulder Ballet to create this grand scale production. A cast of 80 dancers, full scenery, costumes and live orchestration of Tchaikovsky's score will come together to create breathtaking and magical performances.

Each year the company's production evolves and changes and as part of Boulder Ballet's 25th anniversary season these performances are sure to delight. One of only two professional ballet companies in the region that performs to live orchestration, Ana Claire and Peter Davison's classical choreography is infused with theatrical magic, circus arts, and a rare sense of humor. It will certainly begin the holiday season on the right foot. Leave the turkey leftovers behind and step into the magic of dancing snowflakes, dueling mice and the enchanted land of sweets. It's a perfect way to begin your holiday season and it won't hurt your waistline like that second helping of mashed potatoes!
