FROMPRESS RELEASE: "And You Could Be the Sun" is a combination and culmination of more than 20 years of individual musical experience. It is an album of many different moods and styles.Original compositions by Andy Monley, and some jazz standards played in non-standard ways put the album in a genre of its own. Julie Monley has been singing Jazz and Bossa Nova in Denver and Eurpoe for more than 25 years. She played two years in London and twelve years in Paris with such notables as
Michel Graillier,
Tony Crombie and
Dylan Fowler. In Denver, she has worked with the great
Joe Bonner,
Nat Yarbrough and
Manuel Molina . In 1986, she won the prestigious best vocalist prize at the
"Jazz Festival de Vienne." In 1995, she won second prize at
"Tremplin Jazz du Val d'Oise," competing with 185 groups throughout Europe. Presently she lives and works in Denver with regular showings at the famed Dazzle Restaurant and Lounge (Top 100 Jazz Clubs Worldwide - Downbeat). Andy Monley has been making music in Denver since 1980. The early years had him playing in pivotal groups such as
Church and State, and
Acid Ranch. Around 1985, he founded the post punk western apocalyptic group
Jux County. As Jux County made its through the 1980s, Andy started the side project
The Velveteen Monster. Around 1995, Andy joined the
Czars. In 2000, he released his first solo album, Denver, followed by
Triplight in 2005. "Denver" was named
Best Musical Recommendation of the Mile High City by Westword's Best of Denver. As
Hybrid Magazine touts, "
Monley's guitar shakes you into a state of restless tension. This is not music for the faint of heart, but rather for those that can appreciate the divine power of truly great music ."
