Shakespeare coming to an outdoor theater near you
Contributed by: Jeff Thomas on 7/6/2007

Taste of Shakespeare brings " Twelfth Night" to outdoor venues along the northern Front Range, from July 14 through August 11. All performances are free.

" Twelfth Night" is Shakespeare's comedy of shipwrecked twins, mistaken identity, misdirected love. Viola survives a shipwreck on Illyria, where Orsino is Duke. She disguises herself as a man, enters Orsino's service, and falls in love with him -- but can't let him know. Meanwhile, Orsino uses Viola to woo the Lady Olivia, who in turn falls for Viola's male persona. Not to be left out, Malvolio, Olivia's servant, displays sartorial splendor in his yellow cross-gatered stockings, as he tries to woo Olivia also. Viola's twin brother arrives, having also survived the shipwreck, and confusion reigns -- until it all (mostly) works out in the end.

Taste of Shakespeare is the educational outreach group of Longmont Theatre Company. TOS brings free Shakespeare to the northern Front Range community each summer, and provides workshops and school visits during the school year. Longmont Theatre Company provides a wide variety of theatrical offerings year-round. In September, LTC starts its 50th season with "The Foreigner".

More information on Taste of Shakespeare and Longmont Theater Company, including how to arrange for school visits, can be found at our website, www.longmonttheatre.org.
