Anne of Green Gables comes to life on stage
Contributed by: Priscilla Slocum Lacy on 9/27/2007

Louisville, CO (September 21, 2007): The wonderful family classic of freckle-faced, red-haired orphan Anne Shirley and her farm country adventures is coming to the local stage with Anne of Green Gables - The Musical.

Boulder County's own, CenterStage Theatre Company will open Anne of Green GablesFriday evening,October 12th for ten performances in Boulder.

Based on the 1908 novel by L.M. Montgomery, this production follows Anne's first year in Avonlea where she is sent to live with middle-aged siblings, Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert. They were expecting a boy but agree to let her stay and receive laughter, love and some consternation in return from the precocious 11 year-old full of hope. Director Jeanie Balch has experienced this production twice before. First, through her daughter's part in a local production several years ago and then later, traveling to Prince Edward Island and seeing the popular show on site. The theme she is focusing on is "the unexpected opportunity to have an effect for good on someone else. At one point in the script, Marilla complains, 'What good would she do us?' and Matthew replies, 'We might be some good to her.'" says Balch.

So come join our two casts (35 each) of talented young actors ranging in age from 5 th-8 th grade.

There will be live music with a variety of musical styles: The Sondheim-ish duet "I'll ShowHim/Her!", the touching "The Words" and the boastful "Gee I'm Glad I'm No One Else ButMe". Anne of Green Gables
