Altona Middle School students are joining in the fight against cancer by raising money and walking the school's track on Friday, May 16th beginning at 3:45 pm.
The Altona chapter of the National Junior Honor Society is holding a "Mini-Relay," which is an abbreviated version of the American Cancer Society's ® national signature activity, Relay For Life ®. Students will be collecting donations from now until May 14 th and will be walking around the track that afternoon. During the event they will also host a bake sale and a silent auction. They are still looking for local businesses to donate items and services for these events.
"It's a great opportunity for the students to make an impact in the community as well as become knowledgeable about cancer. The students feel good about themselves knowing they are doing something to help others," said Laura Bradbury, Altona Middle School teacher and NJHS adviser.
The "Mini-Relay" will be a two-hour event complete with music from Nick Catalfamo and Nick Miller, refreshments, decorations, a survivor's lap and additional sporting events, all to raise money and raise cancer awareness. All money raised by the Altona Middle School students will be donated to the American Cancer Society.
The 10 th annual Relay for Life of Longmont will take place June 20 th and 21 st at Roosevelt Park in Longmont and is estimated to raise over $100,000 for the American Cancer Society's mission of saving lives from cancer. The money raised by the Altona Middle School students will be donated to Relay for Life in the name of their school.
