Rhythm on the River -- Green since 1996
Contributed by: Erik Mason on 6/30/2008

Northern Colorado's signature festival, Rhythm on the River, has been a "green" festival since gas cost less than a dollar a gallon. The Zero Waste philosophy has been a part of Rhythm on the River from its beginnings back in the mid 1990s. The festival began as a dream of Roger and Roberta Jones, whose foresight and support allowed for the creation of Roger's Grove park on Hover Street, where Rhythm on the River is held.
Over the years, this festival has grown to include two music stages, eco-friendly crafts, local artists, Longmont CSI police demonstration areas, plus a 5K run/walk, more than a dozen local restaurants, and a host of other activities. Festival admission is free, and there is free parking and a free shuttle from the Boulder County Fairgrounds at Hover St. and Boston Avenue.
The fun begins Friday, July 11, from 5:00 pm- 9:00 pm with the hilarious Kevin Fitzgerald, the comic veterinarian seen on Animal Planet, and the music of Tropical Coyotes. The main festival "unwraps" on Saturday starting at 6:30 am, with two stages of music all day long, rock climbing walls, the World Market featuring products from around theglobe, a hot air balloon launch early in the morning, and activities all day long.Saturday evening concludes with the Ricardo Pena band, starting at 6:30 pm.
With everything that goes on at Rhythm on the River, it's easy to see why citizens have voted it Longmont's best outdoor festival. For more information, call the City of Longmont Recreation Services at 303 651-8404, or visit www.ci.longmont.co.us/rotr.
