On Wednesday, July 30, at 7 pm, visit the Longmont Museum for a distinctive musical performance. Gamelan Tunas Mekar, a group that performs the indigenous music of the island of Bali in Indonesia, brings their percussion orchestra to the Museum.
The ensemble, or
gamelan, includes gongs, xylophones, cymbals, flutes, and drums. Led by Balinese composer and Artist in Residence I Made Lasmawan, Gamelan Tunas Mekar plays traditional music from Balinese temple ceremonies, and contemporary pieces created by Balinese composers. Balinese dance will also be performed at this concert.
The free concert takes place in the Museum's outdoor courtyard. Seating is on the grass, blankets and picnics are welcome. Please leave pets and glass bottles at home. The 2008 Longmont Museum concert series is sponsored by the City of Longmont, the Friends of the Longmont Museum, the Yellow Scene, and the Longmont Museum Advisory Board.
