The St. Vrain Rose Society will hold its 13th annual Rose Show at the Longmont Senior Center, 910 Longs Peak Ave., Longmont, on Aug. 26. It will be free and open to the public from noon to 4:30 p.m. so that all can enjoy the hundreds of beautiful flowers and arrangements on display.
Everyone is invited to enter named roses for judging between 7 and 10:30 a.m. If you don't know the name of the rose you want to exhibit, specialists will be on hand at registration to help you identify your beauty. Just cut that flower or spray the night before, with as long a stem as possible, and plunge it immediately into warm water. Bring it to the senior center the next morning, still in water. Vases will be provided.
Come and share your treasures and enjoy those of others. This occasion is a feast for all the senses. In the immortal words of
Edward Lear:
And if you voz to see my roziz
As is a boon to all men's noziz,
You'd fall upon your back and scream,
'O Lawk! O crikey! It's a dream!'
The theme for this year's show is "The Poetry of Roses." Come and marvel at the creativity of those who enter the extensive arrangement section. Decide what you think about what
Roland E. Beowne wrote: "I don't know whether nice people tend to grow roses, or growing roses makes people nice."
If you have questions, please phone 303-440-1981 or 720-494-8690.
The St. Vrain Rose Society extends its special thanks to the Longmont Parks and Forestry Department for all their help in making this special event happen.
Hope to see you Aug. 26!
