JOHNNY MATHIS TO HELP COMFORT BOULDER’S GRIEVING

HospiceCare & Share Thrift Shop Grand Opening

Boulder , CO :  An autographed 8 x 10 glossy of Johnny Mathis will be one of thousands of items for sale at the new HospiceCare & Share Thrift Shop ( 5290 Arapahoe Rd. , Boulder ) when the store officially opens on Friday, Sept. 9. Refreshments will be served and special sales will be revealed during the grand opening celebration on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 10 from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Boulder’s newest Mecca for merchandise with mileage features everything from jewelry and household items to prom dresses and board games. The store’s expansive floor space allows for an extensive selection of furniture. All items are “gently used,” says the store’s manager Barbara Nelson.

Proceeds from all sales go directly to HospiceCare, a 30-year-old non-profit organization that provides comprehensive support services before, during and after end-of-life situations.  The new thrift store shares a purpose, and a few walls, with HospiceCare’s new Grief and Education Center . In their unique ways, both help members of the community as they grieve. The Center offers an array of programs and counseling options. The store plays a critical role helping financially. Dollars from the sales of Barkaloungers and boxing gloves add up to help with programs such as Healing Circles, a innovative grief support system for children and teenagers. A piece of furniture may get a $15 price tag, but it is impossible to put a dollar value on the comfort HospiceCare provides the community.

The store will help educate the public about HospiceCare programs with displays about its services set up among the merchandise and volunteers ready to explain the organization. “Shoppers will not only walk out with a bargain, they’ll leave with a good feeling about helping the community, and new knowledge about our organization,” says Nelson.

Barbara Nelson and her assistant, Lynn McCullough supervise an all-volunteer staff. The hundreds of hours and energy donated by Boulder and Broomfield County residents are indicative of the community’s commitment to the organization, and the organization’s commitment to residents – part of what has made HospiceCare such a critical part of the community for three decades.

The grand opening celebration begins at 10 a.m. on Sept. 9. Get there early, before someone else takes Mr. Mathis home.
