Blotter: Driver hits construction worker 3 times

DRIVER HITS CONSTRUCTION WORKER THREE TIMES
A 63-year-old Longmont man was arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault with a deadly weapon and leaving an accident scene at approximately 4:55 p.m. on Aug. 19. Police were dispatched to 17th Avenue and Main Street for a hit-and-run involving a pedestrian. A construction worker said he was closing northbound traffic on Duchess Drive when a man tried to get through. When told no, the driver hit the construction worker with his car, then backed up and drove into him again, causing him to land on the hood of the car. When the man drove off, he side-swiped the construction worker. When the driver was contacted in a nearby parking lot, he said the construction workers were launching insults at him so he got mad. His wife, whom he was on his way to pick up, said the man's Bipolar disorder might have caused the altercation. Witness accounts and hand prints on the hood of the car corroborated the construction worker's report. The man was taken to the Longmont Police Department and then Boulder County Jail.

MAN HITS CAR, FRONT PORCH AND FLEES
A 22-year-old Longmont man was arrested at approximately 10:34 p.m. Aug. 25 on the 1600 block of Donovan Place on suspicion of DUI, leaving an accident scene involving an injury, careless driving resulting in an injury, driving with a revoked drivers license, failure to stop at a stop sign and driving without insurance. Police were dispatched to the 100 block of Vivian Street near Spruce Avenue on an accident injury involving a man leaving the scene. When police arrived the man who was hit was being treated by paramedics for a neck injury. The injured man lost control of his car after being hit and hit another parked car. He was taken to Longmont United Hospital. The girlfriend of the man who fled said she was in the passenger seat when her boyfriend ran a stop sign, hit a car and drove into a front porch. The man then fled, but later called police and told them he drank a "40 magnum" five to 10 minutes before driving. He was taken to Longmont United Hospital for a head injury. At the hospital, police smelled alcohol on his breath and performed a blood test on him. He was issued a summons and released to a sober party.

MAN PULLS OUT CHUNK OF HAIR
A 27-year-old Longmont man was arrested on suspicion of third-degree assault at approximately 1:48 a.m. on Sept. 6. Police responded to a fight at A Bit O Billiards, 700 Ken Pratt Blvd. When police arrived, the reporting couple said they walked out of the bar and saw two men urinating near their friend's car, but couldn't tell if they were urinating on the car. The woman asked the men stop and a confrontation ensued. One of the men said something to the effect of "I'm going to kick your (expletive)." Before the woman's husband got in the middle of them. The other guy that was urinating grabbed the man's hair. The man showed police the chunk of hair pulled from his head. The man who grabbed the hair was taken to the Longmont Police Department, issued a municipal summons and released.

POLICE SLAM ON BRAKES TO AVOID COLLISION
An 18-year-old Longmont man was arrested at 12:37 p.m. Sept. 7 at 18th Avenue and Francis Street on suspicion of a DUI, failure to obey a traffic signal, disregarding a traffic control device, possession of not more than one ounce of marijuana and possession of a drug paraphernalia. A police officer on patrol saw a BMW driving northbound on Francis Street that did seem like it was going to stop at the light. The officer slammed on his brakes to avoid a collision. He activated his lights to pull over the man. The man did not pull over right away and did so in a sudden, jerky motion. Police said the man had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and smelled like alcohol. He failed roadside maneuvers. Police searched the man's car and found a glass pipe, 2.5 grams of a leafy substance that later tested positive for marijuana. The man was taken to the Longmont Police Department and released to a sober party.

POLICE FOLLOW OIL TRAIL TO CRASHED CAR
An 18-year-old Longmont man was arrested at 1:06 a.m. Sept. 7 on the 400 block of Baker Street on suspicion of DUI, driving with a blood alcohol level of more than .08, careless driving, driving without a seatbelt and leaving an accident scene after striking property. Police saw a large amount of vehicle debris on the road and a fluid trail that led to a Lincoln Navigator parked in the middle of the road with extensive damage to the front. A little while later a man walked up, said he was drunk and wrecked his car. He refused roadside tests and was taken to the Longmont Police Department. He blew a .212 on a breathalyzer test. He was booked, issued a summons and released to a sober party.
