EXPLOSIVES FOUND AT LONGMONT HOUSE
Three highly explosive grenades were found at a residence on the 1600 block of Mount Evans Street. Police acquired a search warrant for the house at 12:32 a.m. April 21. Also found in the house was a .45 caliber handgun, two boxes of ammunition and two smoke grenades. The explosives were safely removed from the house and are being stored by the Boulder County Bomb Squad. The explosives belonged to a 35-year-old Longmont man who already had been arrested on several felonies and is being held at Boulder County Jail. Suspicion of weapon possession and four counts of explosive/incendiary weapons were added to his arrest sheet. The man lived in the basement of his mother's house, who was home when officers searched it.
TEEN THREATENS MAN WITH TIRE IRON
A 16-year-old male was arrested at 4:56 p.m. April 24 on suspicion of two counts of menacing after he threatened a man with a tire iron. Police were dispatched to Vectra Bank, 2011 Ken Pratt Blvd. to meet the reporting party. The reporting party said he accidentally cut the teen off while driving and was then followed by the teen's car. The reporting party pulled over and the teen pulled in front and charged at the man with a tire iron in hand. The teen's girlfriend said when he returned to the car, he said the other driver "chickened out." The reporting party pulled out and called 911 with the teen's license plate number. The teen was located, taken to the Longmont Police Department and released to his mother on a court referral.
MAN PASSES CHECKS THAT AREN'T HIS
A 39-year-old Berthoud man was arrested at 10:53 a.m. April 29 on the 2400 block of Main Street on suspicion of theft, driving with a revoked driver's license and two counts of identity theft. The reporting party said checkbooks were stolen from her residence on the 2900 block of Cormorant Place. More than 40 checks totaling $1,297 were used at Kings Soopers, Safeways and Hover Crossing. Surveillance cameras caught the man and a parole officer was able to identify him. The man also is suspected in other cases of fraud. He was taken to Boulder County Jail.
