At 5:58 p.m. on Thursday, May 28, 2009, the Longmont Emergency Communications Center received a call reporting a 40 year old male had just attempted to stab another male at 215 East 17th Avenue.
Officers were dispatched and contacted the victim and the suspect's elderly father who had evacuated the home. As officers arrived the suspect began to exit the home. He saw the officers and ran back into the home refusing orders from the officers to stop.
Officers set up a perimeter and a Pridemark - Longmont Fire Department Ambulance crew helped evacuate the elderly father. Officers attempted to contact the suspect to exit the residence but he refused. The Longmont PD SWAT Team was called to assist with the barricaded suspect.
Rush hour traffic was heavy in the area.
The Longmont Emergency Unit and Longmont Police Citizen Volenteer Patrol rerouted traffic in the area.
At 1910 hours, the suspect was convinced to leave the home by SWAT Team members. He exited and was arrested.
He was transported to the Longmont Police Department where he was booked and held on Attempted First Degree Assault and Felony Menacing. Detectives interviewed the victim and witnesses. They then processed the crime scene.
Traffic was retuned to normal at approximately 1930 hours.
