5-YEAR-OLD TESTS POSITIVE FOR MARIJUANA
A 14-year-old girl was arrested at 8:40 p.m. May 28 after a 5-year-old ate some of the girl's marijuana. Police were called to Longmont United Hospital, 1950 Mountain View Ave., after the 5-year-old girl's grandmother took her to the hospital. The grandmother came home to find the 5-year-old lethargic. She was worried the 5-year-old girl might have gotten into her husband's prescription medication, but a blood test showed the girl had marijuana in her system. The grandmother suspected it was the 14-year-old's, who said the girl got into her stash and might have eaten a small amount. Doctors said the 5-year-old would experience flu-like symptoms from the marijuana. The girl also had marijuana in her system when she was born and social services had been called on a previous occasion when the girl was wandering around the apartment complex after her father fell asleep. The child was placed in the custody of social services. The 14-year-old was arrested on suspicion of child abuse-criminal neglect and crimes against an at-risk youth resulting in injury. The girl was taken to the Boulder County Detention Center.
