A 19-year-old Longmont man was arrested at 6:38 p.m. June 11 on the 400 block of Lashley Street on suspicion of two counts of second-degree aggravated motor vehicle theft. Police were dispatched to the 100 block of Reed Place after the reporting party saw a tow truck loading up Subaru's in his neighbor's driveway. A man, whom the neighbor didn't recognize, sold the cars to a tow truck driver. When the neighbor went over to ask what was going on, the tow truck driver said he had just bought the cars, which didn't run, for $150 from the 19-year-old who had already left. The 19-year-old told the tow truck driver he did not have paperwork for the cars, but said the cars were his mother's and she wanted to get rid of them. The neighbor thought this was suspicious and called the neighbor, whose cars and house had been abandoned after her house was condemned. She confirmed the man wasn't her son and she didn't want the cars sold. The tow truck driver had the address of the two men involved and the neighbor had taken photos of them. One of the men was taken into custody and released. The 19-year-old said he had sold the cars. When the officer asked him why he sold two cars that weren't his from a house that he didn't know who owned, the man said, "Well, it's abandoned property and abandoned cars." He was taken to Boulder County Jail.
