A juvenile girl reported catching her mother's fiancé looking at her through a crack in the bathroom door. The girl and her sister said on one of the occasions the girl was wearing only a towel. When the girls told their mother, the mother and her fiancé sought counseling through their church. The pastor reported the incident to social services who contacted police. When questioned by police, the 50-year-old Longmont man said he accidentally discovered the crack and had used it for the sole purpose of viewing the girl naked. He said he had looked through it at least 20 times in the past year and a half. The man said he had a "character flaw" that he needed to work on. The girls said they considered him to be a father figure and didn't want to press charges. Under the recommendation of the Boulder County Sexual Assault Review Team, the man was arrested at the police station at 7 a.m. June 25 on suspicion of unlawful sexual contact-observation/photography.

Man wasn't stealing; getting items for free
An 18-year-old Longmont man was arrested at 3:51 p.m. June 20 at Kmart, 2151 Main St., on suspicion of theft. Loss prevention at the store reported two employees stealing items by not scanning them. The 18-year-old would take items to the counter and the cashier would only scan some of them, according to the report. The 18-year-old said he knew some of the items weren't being scanned, but said he thought he was getting them for "free." The estimated amount stolen was $109.50 and included clothing. The man was taken to Boulder County Jail. It is unclear what happened to the cashier.

Functioning alcoholic arrested after lots of driving
A 41-year-old Longmont woman was arrested at 12:18 p.m. June 18 after she drove from her house to the doctor's office, then back home, then to work, then back home before crashing her car. Police were dispatched to a property accident at 17th Avenue and Hover Street. The woman, who smelled like alcohol, failed a roadside sobriety test. Empty bottles of alcohol were found in her car. The woman said she had been drinking the night before, woke up at 4 a.m. and continued drinking and then went on with her day. When asked how she completed her daily tasks either drunk or intoxicated the whole time, she said she was a "very functional alcoholic." The woman was given information about an addiction recovery program and then was taken to Boulder County Jail on suspicion of careless driving, DUI and with a blood-alcohol level of more than .08.

Woman threatens to sue after failing breath test
A 49-year-old Longmont woman was arrested at 12 a.m. June 23 after beer was found in a coffee mug in her car. The woman was pulled over for a traffic violation at the intersection of Judson Street and Mountain View Avenue. The woman smelled like alcohol and failed a roadside sobriety test. The woman said she wanted more tests. When she failed a Breathalyzer test, she threatened to sue. She was arrested on suspicion of DUI, driving with a blood alcohol level of more than .08, failure to stay within a single lane, and failure to dim her lights.

Babysitters caught stealing on the job
A 17 and 18-year-old were caught on video putting $381 worth of merchandise in their purses and walking out of Kohl's, 1211 S. Hover St., on June 23. The pair was with two children they were babysitting at the time. One of the females was wearing an ankle bracelet because she was on probation for a previous theft. According to the report, the females stole items from Target and Petsmart that day. They were arrested at 6:58 p.m. on suspicion of theft, possession of burglary tools and child abuse counts. The 17-year-old was released on a Boulder County Juvenile Referral. The 18-year-old was taken to Boulder County Jail.
