Police arrest two suspects in gang homicide
Contributed by: Jeff Thomas/YourHub.com on 4/19/2006

Longmont police have announced the arrest of two additional suspects in the April 15 gang-related homicide of a 17-year-old Hispanic male, all of whom are apparently Norteno gang members.
Brothers David Rodriguez, 20, and Joseph Rodriguez Jr., 18, were arrested on April 18, Longmont police said, and both charged with second-degree assault and conspiracy to commit second-degree assault. Police said the homicide occurred when a group of Hispanic males in the late teens of early 20s confronted Martin Garcia, 17, on the 200 block of 21st Avenue and beat him with bats and other club-type instruments and then stabbed him, possibly with a sword.
Boulder County Sheriff's deputies arrested Adam Mizones, 21, on April 16. Mizones was a passenger in a vehicle stopped by the Boulder Sheriff's deputies near Superior at 10:45 p.m., and he was searched and found to be in possession of a samurai sword.
Mizones, who is believed to reside primarily in the Aurora and Longmont area, is being held at Boulder County Jail for investigation of second-degree murder, first-degree assault and possession of a concealed weapon, as well as a probation violation out of Arapahoe County.
Longmont detectives were able to establish sufficient probable cause to also arrest 17-year-old Oscar Lozano, who is believed to primarily reside in Longmont, for his role in the attack on April 16. Lozano was arrested at the Longmont Police Department on the charge of second-degree assault, and is currently being held at the Boulder County Juvenile Detention Center.
The homicide occurred about 6:30 p.m. April 15. Police responded to the scene to find 17-year-old Garcia in the street suffering from a stab wound to the abdomen. Garcia was immediately transported to the hospital but later died from his injuries.
Police are now saying that it appears Garcia had once been a member of a rival gang but was trying to distance himself from that life. Police said several witnesses said Garcia was confronted and assaulted by a group of Hispanic males on the street as he exited his car and began walking across the street to a friend's home.
Two vehicles were described by witnesses as the vehicles driven by the suspects, police said: A 1990s model Cadillac Deville, gray or green in color; and a 1990s model Mercury Marqui gray or silver in color.
