World Blood Donor Day Attracts Donors

Every year on June 14, countless donors are recognized in 34 countries around the world; more than 100,000 of which are part of the Bonfils Blood Center donor family and Bonfils Blood Center would like to thank each and every one. Through their gift of blood, donors can save and enhance the lives of up to three patients with a single donation.
On Saturday, donors throughout the world will be recognized for their selfless efforts to increase the number of blood donors to maintain a safe and adequate blood supply for people of all ages that they may never know or meet. The dedication of donors like those found at Bonfils Blood Center allows for donations not only to support Colorado patients but to be sent beyond the state, beyond its borders and for use by military forces when called upon.
Another focus of World Blood Donor Day it to attract a new generation of blood donors to positively impact the blood supply, especially during the summer months. It is during the summer months that blood donations can drop by as much as 20 percent due to the busy schedules and travel plans of our donors; and therefore, it is that much more important to give blood now. In August, the Democratic National Convention will be in Denver. This population surge will require additional support from current and potential donors to meet the need for additional units of blood.
Donating blood is one of the fastest and easiest ways to serve your community. The entire process takes about an hour and can be done as often as every 56 days throughout the year. It is this devotion that has pushed some of our top donors to contributing more than 50 gallons.
Veteran and first-time donors that take time out of their schedules to give blood from now until July 12 will receive a Bonfils t-shirt. Donors that give a second time this summer, between July 13 and Sept. 6, will also receive a baseball cap in appreciation for their contributions. As an additional sign of gratitude, donors who give twice during the summer months will automatically in entered into a drawing for a three-night trip to Riviera Maya, Mexico, courtesy of Apple Vacations.
It does not matter if today was your first donation or your 65th; each generous contribution will be recognized on June 14 this year and for years to come. Schedule a donation appointment today by calling 303.363.2300 or 800.365.0006, opt. 2 or visiting www.bonfils.org.
Bonfils Blood Center celebrates 65 years of saving lives through its ongoing stewardship of the community blood supply and the instrumental role it continues to play in the lives of patients in need throughout Colorado and beyond. Bonfils Blood Center supplies blood to more than 200 healthcare facilities and needs to collect more than 4,000 blood donations weekly to meet the needs of the community and to be prepared for any unexpected events. For information about Bonfils Blood Center please call 303.366.2000 or visit www.bonfils.org.

Giving blood is one of the few unambiguously good deeds a person can do these days. It's amazing to know that your blood WILL be put into the body of a person in need. They'll never know who you are and you'll never know them, but you'll know they're out there, and that you've helped saved their life.
