50 Points Can Save You $72,000

Now that we're digging ourselves out of the recession, it's time to start thinking about getting your life back on-track. Now is a great time to buy a home; there are some truly excellent deals out there. Sellers are highly motivated and buyers are once again venturing out and shopping for the right property.

If you're a buyer, have you let your credit profile deteriorate during these lean times? Were you late on a few payments? Miss some altogether? Are your credit cards now maxed out?

All of these reduce your credit score resulting in you paying more for everyday items. A mere increase of 50 points can save you over $72,000 on a $200,000 home mortgage. 50 points! That's not a lot and can be restored in a few months. If you plan making a major purchase - home, auto, wide-screen TV, then NOW is the time to act. If you do plan on making one of these purchases, plan ahead and get your credit cleaned up. Unless you don't mind paying extra for the same thing you can get at a cheaper price.

Would you pay $9.50 for a Big Mac? Heck no! That would be crazy. It's crazy because you know the normal price is under $4.00, and you're not stupid. So why would you pay extra for your next large purchase when you don't have to?

Many things in life are now governed by your credit score. Interest rates for mortgages, and even if you qualify, are based on your credit scores. Whether you can rent an apartment, bank at certain institutions, get a job, and what you pay for your auto insurance rates are all based on your credit scores. It may not be right, but that's the way it is. There is statistical evidence that clearly matches low credit scores with bad financial habits.

So, if you plan on moving forward with your life and not paying a lot of extra money, cleaning up your credit scores is the way to go. This will pay you HUGE dividends. And all it takes is to change the way you do a few things. Not huge changes, just minimal changes. After a few weeks you won't even remember the old way you used to do things. It's that easy and quickly becomes automatic.
