Honorable local Government vs character assassins
Contributed by: Richard Yale on 3/22/2008

I salute the People of Firestone for supporting their wise and informed decision to hear the pleas of Weld County citizens who have been working in good faith with the City of Longmont looking for security in their homes and property investments that contribute to the common wealth of the region. Unfortunately, the newly elected Longmont Council does not share that good faith and has gone to extraordinarily efforts to communicate its hostility and disapproval of anyone or group or government that does not share its politics - Statism.

The very first majority meeting of the newly elected progressive representatives on Longmont City Council occurred Tuesday December 8 th where they announced a new mean spirited Longmont public policy against annexation and people who do it, as a block of solid votes. The inflammatory rhetoric along with character assassinations of property owner's annexations into Longmont turned people's stomachs and the backlash showed with a landslide victory in a special election to fill a seat vacated by Mayor Lange over the progressive candidate the Council majority openly supported with money and praise. The bedrock problem with Longmont City Government right now is there are no Checks and Balances in actual City Process as the Charter provides. In the unanimous statement of fact written by Justice Kennedy the brief below notes that the Supreme Court telegraphed its extreme displeasure with the City of Monterey's bad faith behavior in treating this property owner. Compare what they did to Monterey to LifeBridge and Mr. Bruns property he wishes to annex. The facts of City of Monterey basically turned the Court's stomach, But, it doesn't turn the progressive's stomachs, they aren't listening to the Supreme Court so they are missing the fact that the Court isn't buying that just because they are the government every thing they do is good and is legal. Longmont was warned it was acting above the law, but what did they care, after all this is how the big boys and girls do it in Boulder they are emulating who know more about what is good for the people in Weld County that the Weld County residents do.

Thus, it is no surprise that the heavy-handed treatment Longmont Council now accords Weld County citizens is now miss-directed against our sister Town and good citizens to the East. Their bungled strategy to annex is backward. Their act is the Institution of the City of Longmont annexing for progressive reasons justifying Statism. This is not a legitimate case of property owners asking the Government to annex for bona fide reasons of security and community welfare. This is Government abusing its power to prevent people from annexing for their security and the community welfare for revenge and to property owner's rights in Weld County to use their property differently than the Boulder progressives in Longmont think they should. Firestone has the benefit of City of Monterey v. Del Monte Dunes at Monterey, Ltd., 119 Supreme Court 624 (1999), to know what it is doing is right. Please see http://library.findlaw.com/1999/Aug/1/130460.html.

Abraham Lincoln's words in his February 27, 1860, Cooper Union Address: "Let us have faith that right makes might, and in that faith, let us, to the end, dare to do our duty as we understand it" - in his attempt to defend a policy of neutral engagement with those who practice slavery. Certainly the economic slavery of Weld County property owners who do not bow and swear fealty to progressive dictators on Longmont Council is the goal of Longmont' present defilement of inter-City relations with the Town of Firestone today. Thus, Firestone is leading with moral authority fighting the right fight for freedom in the Carbon and Saint Vrain Valley these days and the faith of the People in their leaders makes this right course makes might.

"It matters to Weld County not one nickel whether the LifeBridge Christian Church’s future campus on Colo. Highway 119 is sited in unincorporated Weld County or within Longmont’s city limits. The tax revenue to the county will be exactly the same regardless of which government sites the project." Bill Jerke, Weld County commissioner and Chris Woodruff, the Weld County assessor.

YES THEY DO! Man... that's what some would call a 'crushing defeat'.
