Helping Crime Victims Through It! You Can Do It!
Contributed by: Jana Mendez on 1/31/2006

The Boulder County District Attorney's Office is offering a unique chance to help victims of crime and learn first hand what it's like to work in the DA's Office! Be a Victim/Witness volunteer! You will be working with a GREAT group of people as you work one-on-one with crime victims, providing support and information and guiding them through the court process.

A current Victim/Witness volunteer has called the job, “so rewarding, because you really feel you’re helping people.” She means not only the victims, but also the staff. There’s a real team spirit to the place. You will interact with DAs, helping finding resolution to complicated cases.

A 40-hour training covers every aspect of the process and includes speakers on child and adult sexual assault, domestic violence, counseling skills and more! Internships are available, too. You can gain practical experience while doing meaningful work.

Spanish-speakers are especially encouraged to apply. You will need to spend eight hours a week between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. and be able to make a one-year commitment. If this sounds like a like a good fit for YOU, contact Jan Allan at jallan@co.boulder.co.us or 303-441-3718.
