You may never have heard of "
Right for Longmont" - it's a blog run by the Longmont Republican Women. Technically it's a blog, I guess, but it ony sees a new post about every 2-3 weeks, and every post on the site (dating back to March 17) has a dismal "0 comments." Ride the wave, GOP women!
The site contains about what you'd expect: GOP talking point pap, retreaded slanders about that awful negro running for president, and the occasional item so uncoupled from reality they'd have difficulty believing it in Salt Lake City.
The
latest effort is a turn of the victim card. Poor endangered GOP candidate Marilyn Musgrave (defending her 4th district house seat) is getting some really rough handling at the hands of the local press. How rough? Well, I'll let author
Carolyn Conarroe tell the tale. I've added some returns to break up the text - it's 2008 and people still don't know how to use HTML?
"The Times-Call ran a nice photo of Musgrave on the front page of Thursday's edition. The photo, a nice image, took 6 inches of newspaper space (2 columns x 3 inches= 6 column inches.)
Musgrave's opponent came to Prospect on Wednesday, as if on cue, and her photo occupied 27.75 inches of space (3 columns x 9.25 inches = 27.75 column inches).
It is an overhead shot and the candidate's image is so small that we would find it hard to pick her out of a police lineup but there is a lot of space around her in the photo, which is above the the fold on the front page.
Musgrave's photo is positioned below the fold in the bottom half of the front page and would be easy to miss while the non-photo dominates the page."
And so on... One can't help but picture
Conarroe poring over a newspaper spread across her kitchen floor, yardstick in hand, crying out in triumph as she quantifies the short shrift given her candidate.
Except...well, you can't actually see Markey in the offending photo, as Conarroe herself admits. But "there is a lot of space around her." Aha! If the paper ran a satellite photo of the entire state on a day Markey was here and Musgave was gone, I guess that'd be a similar outrage.
Honestly, is this all the local GOP has left? To accuse the Times-Call (of all papers!) of being part of the mythical liberal media conspiracy based on unbelievably stupid points like this is .... well, these people left reality behind a looooong time ago.
But weep not for our local GOP - reality is seriously going to come back to bite them good and hard this November.
