How much do I love the Rockies? More than anyone can know! Our first date, with my husband of 7 years, was to a Rockies game. I had gotten up the nerve to call him and ask him out, and my offer of Club Level tickets to the upcoming game was something he couldn't refuse.
On our one year anniversary we celebrated by going to Coors Field. The date was June 18, 1999. The Rockies were playing the Marlins and Todd Helton became the second Rockie ever to hit for the cycle. I remember it like it was yesterday. Why? Because I had a message appear on the electronic scoreboard under the Mountain Ranch Club that read, "BB, 1 down, a lifetime to go. SS" and after the game, he asked me to marry him. The inscription inside his wedding band pays homage to that message stating "Our Lifetime Begins 9-9-99 (our wedding date)."
When I was pregnant with our son, I continued to go to games until the 9th month (July) when the heat was just too much, but 6 weeks after he was born, he took in his first game (the ticket stubs are in his baby book). We celebrated his first birthday by going to? You guessed it, a Rockies game!
My daughter recently celebrated her first birthday, but when she grows up, if she ever tries to complain that she "never gets to do anything fun" (as I once complained, as a teenager, to my parents) we'll get to remind her to, "stop complaining, you've been to the World Series! How many of your friends have done that?" (not that she'll remember going...she was only 8 months old).
How much do I love the Rockies? More than can be put into words. It seems every major facet of my life has in some way been touched by the this amazing baseball club. When I die, you might as well bury me in purple pinstripes.
