Kalenakai Hoshiko
looks exactly like the kind of hockey player you don't want to mess with. From behind her lips, a large gaping hole glares out at the world where a front tooth used to be. This may have intimidated a lesser opponent but not
Sara Schaaf.
Perhaps Sara had a sneaking suspicion that Kalenakai's gap had more to do with the Tooth Fairy than any type of seedier dealings. And there isn't much scary about a missing tooth in a mouth that seems to have a case of the giggles.
Sara and Kalenakai, both 6, paddled up for a friendly game of air hockey at the Longmont Recreation Center May 5. The girls laughed whenever the puck got stuck in the middle of the table, where they couldn't reach.
As the game wore on, Kalenakai going up 3-0, a group of more smiley girls gathered around the table to watch.
When the air turned off and the game ended, the girls relinquished their paddles and all things considered, it seemed to be a well spent 75 cents.
