The i9 Sports flag football season in Broomfield concluded with its tournament day on a beautiful, uncharacteristically warm, November morning with many tight, nail-biting games. After their final games for the season, all of the players received trophies and enjoyed snacks.
In the 6-7 age division 3rd-place game, the Cougars, coached by Rick Helmick, shut down the Raptors, led by Troy Mayemura, 38-12, while in the championship game, Scott Swift's Falcons squad squeaked by the Wolves, coached by April Udland, 14-12.
The title in the 8-9 age division went to the Cobras, guided by Roger Stapleton, in a 13-6 thriller over the Rhinos, who were coached by Brian Kraft. The consolation game was won by the Tom Coogan-led Bulldogs, 37-18, over Frank Cassidy's Lightning team.
The 10-14 age division saw a trio of tight games. The Flaming Hawks, coached by Roger Montoya, took 5th-place with a 31-24 victory over the Terrors, co-coached by Jared Johnson and Ron Elston. The Warriors, led by i9 Sports coaching veteran Bill Gillespie, won 24-20 over Eric Wolf's Vipers team in the 3rd-place game. The Spartans, coached by Dan Cooke, and Bruins, with Dennis Heinrich at the helm, played a thrilling seesaw battle, with the Spartans taking the division crown with a 28-22 win.
