Lacrosse team at Longs Peak Middle School
Contributed by: Jolie NeSmith on 5/10/2008

You heard it right! There is a lacrosse team at Longs Peak Middle School. It is a pretty good lacrosse team too. Who would have ever thought there would be a bunch of middle school kids playing lacrosse in Longmont?

Well, there is a first for everything and Longs Peak is paving the way for future lacrosse in Longmont.

At Longs Peak Middle School there is this after school program called, "The Place" and through The Place and Jason Pacheck (Longs Peak Middle School teacher) an after school lacrosse program has been developed. At the beginning it was just a group of kids hanging out after school and playing around with lacrosse sticks.

Now it has turned into a team of approximately 40 boys and girls playing competitive teams, learning sportsmanship, learning the game and having a lot of fun while they do it. The Longs Peak lacrosse team is coached by Jason Pacheck and Jeb Offut.

The Longs Peak lacrosse team has played such teams as the Ft. Collins Vipers, Boulder Valley, the local Longmont YMCA team and others.

Donations from all over the East Coast and also Rockit Pockit in Ft. Collins enabled the Longs Peak team to obtain the equipment needed in order to play. For a group of kids with little to no lacrosse background or previous coaching the Longs Peak team has been extraordinary only losing one game the whole season.

The Place after school program is coordinated by the City of Longmont Recreation Services. The Place also coordinates the City of Longmont St. Vrain Middle School Soccer League.
