Bible verses to consider on life in the womb.
Contributed by: Samantha Mirabal on 10/4/2008

It seems there are some on here who are throwing Bible verses around to define when life begins. Well check this out:

Job 31:15

"Did not He Who made me in the womb make [my servant]? And did not One fashion us both in the womb?"

If you abort you are ending something God has fashioned.

Psalm 127:3
"Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward."

If you abort you are throwing away a reward.

Psalm 139:13
"For You did form my inward parts; You did knit me together in my mother's womb."

If you abort you are destroying something God has made.

Ecclesiastes 11:5
"As you know not what is the way of the wind, or how the spirit comes to the bones in the womb of a pregnant woman, even so you know not the work of God, Who does all."

If you abort you are destroying bones with the Spirit.

Jeremiah 1:5
Before I formed you in the womb I knew [and] approved of you...

God can know someone in the womb.

Jeremiah 20:17
"Because he did not slay me in the womb, so that my mother might have been my grave, and her womb always great."

Someone can be killed in the womb.

Hosea 12:3
"He took his brother by the heel in [their mother's] womb, and in the strength [of his manhood] he contended and had power with God."

Someone can have power with God in the womb.

Luke 1:44
"For behold, the instant the sound of your salutation reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy."

A baby in the womb can hear and have joy.

Luke 23:28-29
28"But Jesus, turning toward them, said, Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for Me, but weep for yourselves and for your children. 29For behold, the days are coming during which they will say, Blessed (happy, fortunate, and [ g]to be envied) are the barren, and the wombs that have not borne, and the breasts that have never nursed [babies]!"

Jesus told women of his day to mourn for their children because there would be a day when it would be considered a good thing not to have children. Why would he tell them to mourn that?

Vote carefully about when life begins because you will answer for it one day!!

Your are welcome Mr. Dosser. I am honored to respect you as my neighbor. The community should commend you for being the first one to extend the olive branch to heal the real psychological wounds of endless politics. Words hurt. I offer your name in commendation because, you are the first person to wake some of us up and remind us of this fact. David Brown is commended for being the first to take you up. I’d say you have succeeded in a promise you made to your self. So I’ll join the bi-lateral verbal commitment you have made with David: “So I've got a new rule: I'm not going to type a reply to anything David has to say without first imagining that I'm saying it to his face. And in general, I'm going to try my darndest not to get personal, not to get carried away, and to give the benefit of a doubt.” http://denver.yourhub.com/Longmont/Blogs/Family-Community/Community/Blog~526577.aspx

You missed my point. Many who profess that the fetus is a person frequently complain about welfare, crime and other side affects of all the unwanted children they want woman to have by denying them contraception or family planning services. It's even more disturbing when this obvious hypocricy is driven by words in a book written thousands of years ago. A book that has been translated and copied by hand, that has been used for centuries to control the masses. A book that has been used to justify slavery int he past and today homophobic bigotry. We are free to believe whatever we wish just as we are free to criticize whatever we wish. I don't find anything spiritual about this post. It's political in nature, I'm not a fool. When you present fiction I will attack it with facts.

Mr. D, 1. I’ll make it a priority to attend the next meeting with you & David, if you invite me in Longmont; 2. you demonstrate a compassionate insight to acknowledgment Mrs. Mirabal's way of finding her strength coping with today’s challenges in this crazy world; and 3. for your having the intelligence to see the Bible is a recorded history in how men and women coped with craziness in their times. I look forward to meaningful discussions. The psychological stress of this campaign is taking a toll across the country and one tormented soul apparently committed suicide over the weekend because of it and related personal stress from the financial meltdown. What’s happening, some say is Biblical in proportion, like our ancestors we automatically learning to deal with changing circumstances that seem beyond our abilities to control anymore. Thank you for taking the first step in reaching out. Thinking about it, were it not for Mrs. Mirabal you and I may not have found this common ground.

Having said all that, I suppose my main point in response to this article is that our understanding of the natural world has fast outstripped our development of ethics for dealing with our astonishing new powers - heck, we're not even caught up to things we learned in the 1920s as near as I can tell. The bible forbids the collection of interest on loans, but without this our modern financial system would collapse - further than it already has this week, that is. We have had to abandon what used to be sacred law in many cases, frequently because our morality has evolved - the bible did not forbid slavery but instead regulated it. For these reasons I simply don't accept ancient religious text and first-century law as the last word in the development of biomedical law and ethics for the 21st Century.

No offense at all, Mr. Yale. Things do get overheated there, that's true. Mrs. Mirabal, I think there are any number of Rabbis and Talmudic scholars who would strongly disagree that one must accept the triune god before one can understand scripture, at least as far as the Old Testament is concerned. I do, however, applaud you for finding a source of strength and comfort in what sounds like a very difficult early life.

Let me say I grew up an "unwanted" child. Atleast that is what the physical abuse I endured at the hand of my step-father (and was allowed by my mother) suggested to me at the time. However I am glad she did not abort me. I went through heavy torment at times. However I found a personal relationship with Jesus and He helped me through everything. I live a happy life now and am glad I was given the chance to live it, despite how it started. Even if it would have continued to be a hard life I'd still would have wanted to live it. After all it IS my life and everyone should have the chance to live in my opinion.

I must say that I do not think God went into explaining everything in Scientific detail to us in the Bible. I believe whole heartedly that He created all things. You either believe the Bible as God's Word or you don't. I do. If you do not there is going to be plenty we disagree on. However it says in the Bible not to argue. I am not going to get on here and try to prove to those who do not want to believe, God is real and the Bible is His living Word. For those of you who choose to believe, then these blogs will benefit you. For those who wish to blast what I believe, I won't even attempt to prove I'm right and your wrong. You have your opinion and make your own choices, I'll do the same.

Mr. Dosser I am just relieved we can discuss issues like this civilly and look for what we have in common. I would argue just as strongly for you right to express your opinion on this as I would for her. I am trying to moderate to hopefully draw out common cause and sense, not find sharp edges of disagreement. I hope I haven’t offended anyone, including you, because that certainly isn’t my intention.

Mr. Yale, Mrs. Mirabal said in her first comment that she considers the bible to be a scientific text. Her posting ends with an exhortation to vote "about when life begins" with an implied threat of hellfire if you vote the wrong way - not exactly what I'd call a poem. You are absolutely correct that she has a right to express her opinion, as I have a right to express mine. You gotta love YourHub!
