I am a former community journalist at YourHub.com who lived in Vail for two years before moving to Cody, Wyo., where I live now. I mostly use YourHub.com to keep in touch with my former colleagues at YourHub.com World Headquarters in Denver, but I also like photography and post a lot of photos. Fourth of July in Cody
Contributed by: Joel Hunt   on 7/21/2008

The Fourth of July in Cody is like Spring Break in Vail -- the big tourist time.

There's a parade, fireworks, street market and music in the park and town is packed.

The parade runs two days, July 3 and 4, and includes a lot of horses, of course, but it also had a lot of other stuff -- it ran about 2 1/2 hours.

On the Fourth, people were lined up two and three deep along both sides of Sheridan Avenue, Cody's main strip through downtown, for probably about two miles.

There were cars, military displays, floats, bands, cowboys and all the other stuff you'd expect. Plus a steer with the widest horns I've ever seen. They must have been 4 feet across from tip to tip.

The fireworks (photos are posted after the parade pics) were OK, but the finale was disappointing. About half the people where I was watching from left after a couple-of-minute break and about half stayed. I stayed, thinking there must be more. There really was no finale. With fireworks, the only way for people to know they're done is to figuratively blow them away with the finale. After about five minutes of nothing, I left. Pretty lacking for a tourist town on its big holiday.
