HubCap: A blog without a theme
Contributed by: Brendan Leonard/YourHub.com   on 1/15/2007

Most days, here's how I put together this blog:

1. Troll through the recent blogs and stories posted on all 44 of our city Web sites, starting in Arvada and ending in Wheat Ridge. This takes a long time, usually two or three hours, depending on how often I get interrupted.

2. Find a couple of blogs or stories that share a common thread, such as hamburgers, blizzards, or pets. You wouldn't believe how often it works out that three or more people have posted stories about similar things within the past week. Of course, when Mother Nature dumps two feet of snow on the entire metro area, you probably would believe how often three or more people post stories on the same topic.

3. Sometimes I e-mail my co-workers, who are supervising all of our sites, and ask them if they know of any stories relating to a topic I'm thinking of. Sometimes this works, but a lot of the time, they just send me links to stories they themselves have written about a topic that's not really what I was thinking of. Often, they wrote the story six months ago, which is even less helpful.

4. I somewhat craftily weave together the stories into a blog. Sometimes it's not so crafty.

Today, I think we should celebrate not the fact that YourHub.com users tend to write about similar topics within days of each other, but rather the fact that we write well, about a variety of topics. Here's the list of the stories and blog entries I found interesting on Jan. 15, 2006.

Michael Rule, of Larkspur, took a vacation to Mexico, and wrote a great story with photos when he got back. It was not one of those all-inclusive, get-pampered deals, either.

Anthonette Klinkerman, of Castle Rock, shared some of her observations on parenting near a McDonald's PlayPlace.

Cary Shaffer, of Lakewood, caught some deer staring into her church on Sunday. Either they were interested in converting, or they realized it was really cold outside.

Christy McClurg, of Littleton, warns parents about " the choking game," which recently claimed one of her son's friends.
