Spending some time with Charlie Brown and his gang

Tackling their first theatre production in many years, Louisville's Coal Creek Elementary is putting on three performances of "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown" February 24, 26 and 27 in the school's gymnasium/auditorium.

Coal Creek's Fourth and fifth-grade choir group, the Royal Blues, sings chorus in the show while many students take on lead roles to fill out two casts full with 62 kids, also including a few instrumentalists.Supporting this enthusiastic group are an amazing group of volunteer parents, teachers and community theater participants all directed by Mary Jean Pope, Coal Creek's music teacher.

"You're a good Man Charlie Brown" is a popular musical orginating on Broadway stages in the 1960's. It is written for just six characters: Charlie Brown, Lucy, Linus, Peppermint Patty, Schroeder, and Snoopy. "In Coal Creek's production, they have included many other extra characters in Sally, The three Woodstocks, Pig Pen, Frieda and Lila to name a few," said the show's director, Pope.

What you;ll see is a series of skits, similar to comic strips, about a day in the the life of Charlie Brown andhis gang. All the characters begin their day with a positive attitude and then encounter all kids of frustrations, set backs and comic happenings. The story ends with the gang all together singing "Happiness" where they name all the simple and wonderful things they have and experience every single day.
Coal Creek looks forward to sharing this production with local community. Admission is free.
