If you've just had a really good job interview, or got word that you have a new grandkid, or are bringing home a new car, or maybe it's just been one of those days, when nothing goes right and you want just a little bit of perfection to balance out the day, Nicole's shop, "A Grande Finale" on Main and Pine in Old Louisville has just what you need.
Ironically, there are a lot more folks out of town (and with the Internet, way far out of town) who know about this place than we do. The Food Network program "Road Tested with the Neeleys" chose this outstanding Patisserie as one of the best in the entire Denver Metro area, yet, unless you happened to wander across the food channel one day on cable, you'd never have heard about it. Our community has not yet figured out the right way to let its citizens know about quality small businesses that thrive among us. This unassuming "homey" building across Main from the Blue Parrot does not shout - it's not it's style - but it's a breed of bakery few cities can boast of anymore.
These are high end delicacies that you'd expect to see at a diplomatic reception - see their website at http://www.agrandefinale.com but beware, your mouth will water - Raspberry Mousse Torte Cake was the featured item on the Food Network show. There are truffles, pies and fruitcakes for the holidays, tarts, cookies, and much more, that just sparkle with quality ingredients, done to perfection. In our fast food culture, remembering what the real items actually are supposed to taste like is a challenge. The bean counters have long since substituted cash flow and economies of production for those scrumptious flavors we remember from the great-grandmas who could bake up a storm.
It's human nature; folks come from all over the world to see the Rocky Mountain National Park, and we, who are so close, sometimes forget that it's there. Nicole, Genny, and the rest of the staff, have been creating these great desserts for several years now, and actually ship them across the entire country. If you haven't been there, your taste buds are truly missing out.
