The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's (JDRF) Walk to Cure Diabetes raises money to find a cure for type 1 diabetes. Last year, nearly $100 million was raised through the Walk to Cure Diabetes nationwide. This year, the Denver Walk will be held on Sunday, September 14th at Elitch Gardens and aims to raise $1 million.
My name is
Barb, a resident of Superior, CO. I walk because our daughter,
Maddie, was diagnosed at the age of 4 1/2. It has been a challenging and sometimes heart-wrenching time for all of us. Now insulin dependent, Maddie continues to reminds us to be brave and accept what life throws at us. Now 8 years old, she is a spirited girl with a huge personality and loves 3rd grade.
Many think type 1 diabetes can be cured by insulin. While insulin does keep people alive, it is NOT a cure. Children with this disease are insulin dependent for life.
For the fourth year in a row, our family team, "Maddie's Miracles" will walk with hundreds of others in hopes to find a cure for type 1 diabetes. Our team continues to grow and we have more and more fun every year. We are joined by friends, family members and even friends of friends! We started because we wanted to be a part of finding a cure for not only our daughter, but for the millions who endure such a disease. If you would like to help, checks can be made out to JDRF and sent to Don Bowen, 2915 Jade Court, Superior, CO 80027. Each of us can be a part of bringing about a cure.
