On Wednesday, April 19, 2006, a small group of mourners said final goodbyes to
Phyllis Reed
. She lived in Westminster, but for the artists and children of Louisville, she was one of our own.
Phyllis was a photographer, an accomplished painter and a gentle soul who spent endless hours working with the Louisville Art Association, putting together shows (including the Young Artists and Photography shows), answering questions, encouraging newbies just learning to do art, and generally filling in where anything needed doing. With a smile on her face and a warm heart the whole time.
She and her husband
Joe
had hoped to move to Louisville. They had such a love for the city that they even chose their final resting place to be Louisville, but fate intervened, and her health failed her.
At the service held in Lafayette, the minister quoted Phyllis' daughter
Karen
, who said her mother had the capacity to make everyone around her feel loved. And she's right. We will all miss her terribly.
At the reception held at the Louisville Recreation Center after the visit to the cemetery, artists from Louisville and all of Boulder County met, as families do, together, to eat and share stories, and remember the best times. There were a lot of good things to remember.
Louisville has lost one of its most creative spirits, but her work with other artists, encouragement to children in their artistic endeavors and her art and photography will probably outlive us all. Her generous spirit and service to our community will not soon be forgotten.

Thanks, Eva, for such a great articulation of what so many of us are feeling. Phyllis left a wonderful legacy with her cheerful volunteerism for the Louisville Art Association. She was a friend who encouraged each of us to create and created a community, as well as, Art. We miss her every day. Linda Armantrout

Phyllis sounds like she was a wonderful person. My best to her family.
