WOMAN GIVES COP CASH INSTEAD OF ID
A 25-year-old Lafayette woman was arrested at approximately 11:10 p.m. March 2 near the Louisville Police Department on suspicion of DUI and related counts and failure to obey a traffic signal. The woman ran a red light and when she was pulled over by police she almost hit the median. The woman appeared extremely intoxicated and tried to hand over her credit cards and cash, instead of her driver's license. The woman then handed the officer a U.S. Army ID card. She tried to put her car in reverse and then in to drive before the officer took her keys away. The woman said she had "too much" to drink. She was taken to the Louisville Police Department where she blew a .245 on a Breathalyzer test. She was taken to the Alcohol Recovery Center.
FAKE LOTTO SCAM AVOIDED
A woman called police at 6:11 p.m. March 19 regarding a false lottery scam in which her Louisville friend was involved. The woman told police her friend was left handicapped after a car accident and routinely gets e-mails and letters from people outside the country trying to get money. The friend had been informed she won the Canadian lottery worth $250,000. She received a check for $4,735 and deposited it. She then contacted the claims agents' who said she needed to go to Wal-Mart and send a money order to them for $3,850 for taxes associated with the winnings. She was told to tell Wal-Mart the money order was for her sister, otherwise Wal-Mart would want a part of her winnings. The woman's friend asked police to go to her house and explain it was a scam. The woman told police the check cleared, but police informed her that her bank would be calling her probably in a month to tell her it was a fake. The woman was disappointed she didn't win and ashamed she had fallen for the scam.
