Blotter: Man steals $800 worth of cooper


Fire caused by cigarette
Police were dispatched June 9 to the 900 block of Front Street to assist the fire department with a grass fire. The fire was put out by the time police arrived. There had been a group of teens in the field before the fire started. A female in the group said one of the males put out a cigarette, which caused the fire. She said he put it out with a hose and then left. A 21-year-old man matching the description of the person who accidentally caused the fire was contacted. He first denied being there. He was later contacted at his residence on the 1700 block of Garfield Avenue and arrested on suspicion of possessing drug paraphernalia.

Man arrested on suspicion of stealing cooper
A 52-year-old Denver man was arrested on suspicion of theft, driving with a revoked driver's license and an outstanding warrant. Police were dispatched at 8:15 a.m. June 3 to ConocoPhillips, 1 Storage Tek Drive, on a report that the man had stolen copper from the site. The man had worked on the site for a couple of months selling food to construction workers. A man on site saw him take cooper from the facility and put it in his truck. When the man went to buy a drink from his truck, the 52-year-old wouldn't let him see in. The man estimated the cooper was worth $800. The man was fired and when he returned to retrieve his stuff, he was arrested. He was taken to Boulder County Jail.

Party on the Green
At 9:55 a.m. June 9 police were dispatched to Coal Creek Golf Course, 585 W. Dillon Road, on a report that a golf hole, nicknamed "The Party Hole" had been damaged over night. Someone had taken large rocks and smashed them into the green. The damaged was estimated to be $200. The hole received its nickname because there have been a lot of problems with people littering and causing damage near it. It is easily accessible by foot from Fairfield and Manorwood lanes.

Mailboxes damaged
At 3:59 p.m. June 6, police were dispatched to the 1000 block of Turnberry Circle on a report that two mailboxes had been damaged. The damage was less than $100. The case is inactive.
