Plan to steal copper wire thwarted
A 23-year-old Aurora man was arrested after a plan to steal copper wire from a ConocoPhillips site was thwarted. Police were called on a report of a suspicious Uhaul in the Wellspring parking lot, 1078 S. 88th St. Police questioned the 23-year-old, who was in the Uhaul because they had been notified about people previously stealing cooper wire illegally from the location, which is being demolished for the new ConocoPhillips operation. Police noticed bolt cutters, a rubber mallet, a hacksaw and hand-held radios in the car. When questioned further the man said he and another man were going to get paid $1,000 each by their boss to steal copper wire from the site. The man said his boss' company lost a cleanup bid on the site and wanted to steal the wire. The man was arrested on suspicion of possessing burglary tools, criminal conspiracy, second-degree criminal trespassing and driving with a suspended license. He was taken to Boulder County Jail. It is unclear what happened with the accomplice, who wasn't in the Uhaul.
Store employee gets fresh with customer
Police were called June 20 regarding an odd interaction between a Big Lots employee and a customer at 1355 E. South Boulder Road. A woman said on June 18 she was sitting on a couch she was thinking about buying when a male employee sat down next to her, put his arm around her and said, "I just wanted you to know what it's like with someone next to you." The woman said the man smelled like alcohol. When the woman returned June 20 to buy the couch, she was told the store had been having problems with the employee and asked her to file a complaint with the company. She also filed a police report. When questioned by police, the man denied the allegation. Police determined the incident wasn't criminal.
Man punches window after wrecking car
A 25-year-old Broomfield man was issued a summons after wrecking his car in the early morning hours of June 14 at Coal Creek Circle. When police arrived no one was in the car, but it was later determined a witness nearby was actually the driver. The man said he was at a wedding at Coal Creek Golf Course. He said he had been drinking, driving too fast and swerved to miss an animal in the road. The man also injured his arm when he punched the driver's window out of anger and threw his keys in a nearby ditch. He failed a roadside sobriety test and was issued a summons on suspicion of reckless driving.
