What I do: I have been a partner with Hurth, Yeager, Sisk, and Blakemore LLP for over thirty years.
Favorite place in town to hang out: The easy answer is our home, but outside our home, I love going to downtown Louisville whether to share a meal or a cup of coffee.
What I like most about living here: Our citizens are incredible and very diverse. Louisville is such a provocative city and so many citizens care about the issues.
My interests and hobbies- I retired in 2002 as a Division 1 College Football Official- I thoroughly enjoy traveling with my family-I serve on several boards within the County of Boulder. I have a passion for public education and am a strong supporter of the Boulder Valley School District and our education programs. Many people, rightfully so, would suggest I am a staunch and steadfast BUFF, and bleed black and gold. Basically, I thoroughly enjoy people and am stimulated by interaction with people of all ages!!
Favorite thing to cook: I am spoiled in that my wife, Terre, is a gourmet cook and I specialize in clean up. When pressed, I make the best butterscotch sauce and unfortunately it has many calories!!
People who inspire me (and how): The first person for me is my Mother,
Jean Langford Hurd. She has always encouraged me to achieve my dreams and has made that possible. She has been inspiration for me in the manner with which she interacts with people of all ages, ethnicity, sexes, and disciplines. She has the ability to find positives about any person and has been so supportive and influential for me and has instilled values for which I am so grateful. The second person is my wife,
Terre Lee Rushton aka TLEE. How could a person have a more supportive partner that I? Terre is such a contributor and I am proud to say that I am the unofficial President of the Over Married Club. Terre gives me balance, perspective, support, and love for which I am eternally grateful.
How I have contributed to the community: I have been fortunate to have been elected initially to the Louisville City Council in 1991 and have served as Mayor Pro Tem from 1996 until 2004 when I was elected Mayor. Louisville has received many accolades in the last several years, but to claim credit would be very unfair. Many previous council members and Mayors have contributed enormously to our success. I am very proud to have been involved with the many citizens of Louisville and our staff during this time and to have been a part of our maturation.
Biggest issues facing Louisville now:
1. Continued Financial Stability-As with other communities, Louisville is dependent upon sales tax revenue. We need to continue to retain our business and to bring in new businesses that are complimentary to our City.
2. The redevelopment of our Highway 42 area will be an expansion of our downtown, which is the crown jewel of Louisville. We have an opportunity to create something very special as part of the FasTracks implementation.
3. Continuation of regional planning with other municipalities, counties, school district, and other organizations. We have been very active in the MCC (Mayors and Commissioners Coalition), Metro Mayor Caucus, DRCOG, Boulder Consortium of Cities and County. To achieve viable transportation, energy, and planning, we need to continue to embark on this type of regional cooperation.
Why I am running: I have been honored to serve as Mayor for the City of Louisville for the last four years. We have so many opportunities as a City and it is my desire to continue to do what I can to be a part of these very exciting and sometimes controversial decisions, which will further define Louisville and maintain our character and charm.
