Monarch survived the weekend, after losing their first game in the double elimination 5A state baseball championship series.

Monarch opened with a 2-9 loss at the hands of a powerful Chaparral team May 12. They regrouped overnight, however, and defeated Grand Junction in a high scoring 16-12 affair. Grand Junction was eliminated with the loss.

Monarch (20-4) will face Chaparral again in the semifinals this coming Friday May 19 at 3 p.m. at All City Field in Denver.
