My life: Loosely based on a true story
Expect me to write about odd occurences, intimate strangers, daily challenges, malice, debauchery, the moronic, the heroic and the daily doings of local folk. Look to me for fun stuff, odd stuff and local trivia. By the way, as a near native I know of some hidden treasures in this pseudo-paradise we call Colorado. Stay tuned.....

Scratching an old itch...How I got here
Contributed by: Liz Christensen   on 7/12/2006

I have always been interested in political and social issues and was immediately intrigued when I saw the posting for a community news assistant at YourHub.com. A few years back, I cashed in on my journalism degree to become a corporate video producer. I made my way from production assistant to producer, via Starz Entertainment Group, LLC. and EchoStar's Dish Network. Despite modest success, I still had an itch that had not yet been scratched. Having recently completed a master's degree in technical communications at Colorado State University, I was eager to find an outlet (and also a paycheck) for my unique combination of skills. I dreamed of a place where technology and good, old-fashioned journalism could co-exist. For me, this meant anything that wasn't an industrial video.

My name is Liz Christensen and I'm a new community assitant, here at YourHub.com. I must confess that before my recent need to find a job, I had not previously visited the YourHub.com Web site. My first impression was "wow!" here is a tool that allows the community to participate, which I have now come to know as "citizen journalism."

Upon further investigation, I discovered an inner-world where bloggers can offer their opinions, share tips and sound-off about hot topics. With postings of community events, it is basically an online version of a small-town coffee shop or community center. I believe it provides a much-needed unifying outlet for the broader Denver community.

As a former video producer, and long-time Colorado resident, I like to think that I know a little, about a lot of things...sort-of a jack-of-all trades master-of-none type. (Believe it, or not, I used this as a selling point in my interview.) I hope to use this knowledge, (or lack of) to find my niche and become a participant and gatekeeper of this developing medium. Please feel free to contact me with questions or suggestions at christensenl@yourhub.com.
